Possibly one of the most effective deep tissue therapies, is cupping therapy. Cupping can remove toxins and clear blockages from different points in the body. The therapy triggers the lymphatic system, clears the blood vessels and increases circulation in the body, improving flow and releasing tensions.
How does it work?
Cupping therapy is an ancient medical treatment that uses glass or plastic cups to create local suction on the skin, with the goal of mobilizing blood flow and promoting healing. By using heat, a partial vacuum is created in the cup on the skin. The suction draws blood, fluids and toxins of the underlying tissues to the surface, where these elements can be more easily processed by the body. Cups are left on the body for a few minutes allowing the reach of toxins as far as four inches in depth from the skin’s surface.
The powerful suction also breaks up scar tissue, adhesions and releases the muscle layer to help process lactic acid and cellular debris. The natural circulation of body fluids encourages a dynamic healing response and stimulates the immune system. Benefits of cupping therapy include pain management, reduced blood stagnation, calming of the nervous system, stimulation of the digestive system, and improved healing response in sore muscles and tendons. Additionally, cupping is also effective against depression, asthma, body aches, high blood pressure, and chronic joint conditions.
How can it help you?
The benefits of cupping therapy far outweigh the side effects. Aside from some minor discomfort and circular bruises, patients usually do not experience any other side effects. These effects are generally not painful and disappear within a few days. Think of it like this—cupping draws the inflammation out, but does not add to it.
At Anjuna Medicine, our therapists primarily use cupping therapy to help patients have breakthroughs in the healing process and achieve significant improvements in their overall health.
